Kim is a graduate of Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts and has been practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife since 1998.

Before her certification as a midwife she worked as the RN nurse manager in labor and delivery at a local hospital.  Kim currently maintains her ACNM certification and licensure in both New York and Vermont.

"The moment I entered nursing school, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in maternity.  It has always been a part of me, something in my core.  Midwifery chose me, it has always been who I am.  Even at the age of eight years old, my mother could always find me at a neighbor’s home helping a new mother with her baby while other children where outside on their bicycles or playing on the swing set.  I always wanted to be part of their experience and as a result was nick-named “Mother Hen”.  To this day, it gives me great joy to be a part of such a special process.

I remember the first time I witnessed the birth of a baby.  I was 20 years old in nursing school at Glens Falls Hospital.  I was completely amazed by this miracle.  Little did I know then,  that after 30 years and over 2,000 births later, the miracle of birth is just as amazing.  When I first began my journey to become a Certified  Nurse Midwife, I could not have anticipated the sense of gratification that I would also feel by helping my gynecological patients.  Whether it be educating women about contraception, self breast exams, smoking cessation, diet and exercise, comforting them due to a poor diagnosis or loss of a loved one, or simply being their sounding board for concerns, I am so privileged to be able to assist women of all ages and in different stages of their lives.

I am very blessed to be a part of the “family” of the women in our community."

Amy is a graduate of Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Kentucky.  She received her masters in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio.  She has been practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife since 1997.

Prior to certification as a midwife she worked as a Registered Nurse at a tertiary care center in labor and delivery.  Amy currently maintains her ACNM certification and licensure in both New York and Vermont.

"My journey into midwifery began in a very unusual manner.  I was not the typical young mother whose magical memories of birth lead me into the field.  It was quite the contrary.  I was studying biology in my bachelor’s program with aspirations to become a pediatrician.  A job opening at a tertiary care center provided me with an opportunity to gain some practical experience along my path to medical school.  The only available position was in labor and delivery and I grabbed it.  It was in the first ten minutes of my first shift that I was thrust into an old, green-tiled delivery room to assist a nurse with her patient who was ready to deliver.  I must admit that I wasn’t much help as I stood in the corner all masked and gowned.  My bottom jaw was on the floor as I witnessed this perfect miracle unfold before me.

It was at that very moment that my life changed forever.  I knew that this is what I was meant to do.  However, I felt that there was something not quite right.  This family was overwhelmed with happiness and the baby was perfect but everything seemed so sterile and lacked intimacy.  I mentioned it to several of the nurses at various times over the next year as birth became a more routine part of my life.  It never really seemed to strike a chord.  We worked at a tertiary care center and saved lives.  We kept people safe.  What was I talking about?

The summer of my junior year brought a nurse into my life that was prepping to go to midwifery school.  She got it.  She knew exactly what I was talking about.  She introduced to me the concept of being “with women”.  She taught me how to educate women about their bodies and take care of their souls.  I did a complete about face and adjusted my path to midwifery.  I’ve lived & loved; cared & shared; cried & grieved all with the lovely ladies that have allowed me to be a part of their lives and I haven’t regretted one single moment."
